Overview
The client is a leading global sports retailer, offering high-quality athletic gear, footwear, and equipment across more than 40 countries. Committed to promoting active lifestyles, they cater to both amateur and professional athletes with innovative products and trusted partnerships with top sports brands.
Goals
The client was looking for a standardised, digital gift card solution that:
- Made gift cards available in a range of values and designs to suit the gift-giving occasion
- Allowed consumers to buy cards online or in store from one of the client’s retailers
- Spanned a five-country group: Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary
- Allowed consumers to redeem online or at a retail outlet in the respective country
epay were tasked with the technical and commercial implementation of the project.
Solution
Despite the many different cash register systems used by its member companies, we were able to provide a single gift card solution to support the global repositioning and digitisation of the client.
The integration was such that even retailers without cash register integration could use the solution via the gift card portal’s online tool.
Additionally, with Conductor, the client could leverage epay’s vast retailer network, which includes 707,000 point-of-sale terminals globally, to distribute gift cards through third-party and B2B channels. This initiative, supported by cadooz, epay’s sister company, was used as an incentive solution to drive new customer acquisition, enhance customer loyalty, and boost employee motivation.
Outcome
During the first 2 year period from launch the amount of money loaded onto gift cards increased by more than €20 million.
The gift card is currently used by more than 1,000 affiliated stores in the five-country group.
